| What you are trying to confirm | Best official starting point | What it does not prove |
|---|---|---|
| A police record from a recent arrest | The arresting police agency. Nassau County provides an electronic FOIL request route; Suffolk County lists separate SCPD online reports and police reports. | An arrest report is not a conviction and does not tell you the final court disposition. |
| Whether someone is currently in county custody | Use the corrections or sheriff source for the county. Nassau Correctional Center publishes an Inmate Records contact; Suffolk Sheriff states that its FOIL unit generally supplies incarceration records for people held in Suffolk correctional facilities. | Custody status is not a statewide criminal-history record and can change quickly. |
| A current Nassau or Suffolk criminal case | New York Courts says WebCriminal provides current criminal case information for Nassau and Suffolk Counties. | A current case entry is not the same product as a police arrest report or an official DCJS rap sheet. |
| A broader New York criminal-history product | New York Courts identifies DCJS as the keeper of the official arrest-and-conviction rap sheet and separately describes the court system’s name/DOB CHRS product. | Neither product is a real-time Long Island DWI arrest feed. |
Record the town, road or facility, approximate date, and whether Nassau or Suffolk is involved. A Long Island location alone does not identify the police agency that made the arrest.
For a police report, use the agency’s records process rather than a criminal-history search. Nassau’s FOIL form routes requests to a county custodian; Suffolk’s county page separates police-report services from other reports.
If the practical question is whether the person is still held, use the relevant jail or sheriff source. The Nassau Correctional Center publishes Inmate Records contact information, while Suffolk Sheriff’s FOIL page limits its incarceration-record coverage to Suffolk correctional facilities.
For a filed criminal case, check the New York court route. The court system specifically includes Nassau and Suffolk in its current criminal case information coverage.
Current official research did not identify one comprehensive Long Island database of all recent DWI arrests. Treat police records, correctional custody information, court case information, and criminal-history products as separate sources. When the outcome matters, verify the disposition from the court record rather than describing a recent arrest as a conviction.
